Course description

Take time out this summer to step into the woods. Learn hands-on skills in the company of others enjoying nature, community and doing things a little differently. Over four weeks, we’ll explore bush-craft skills that are simple, satisfying, and rooted in ancient culture: 1. Fire from the Forest - fire-lighting with ancient tools and natural materials 2. Tools & Whittling - learn to handle blades safely, coppice and harvest wood for green woodworking, and identify different trees and create your own carved piece to take home. 3. Foraging & the Wild Pantry - gather and cook seasonal wild foods 4. Wild Crafts - use woodland materials and ingredients to craft something useful and unique No gimmicks. No rushing. Just a chance to slow down, build confidence outdoors, and come away with skills you’ll remember — and use. Each session includes time to connect, cook something over the fire, and share conversation with others who appreciate the peace and presence of the beautiful forest garden in Stanmer organics.

A closer look at each session

Session 1: Fire from the Forest

Learn the art of fire-lighting using traditional methods — from natural tinders to ancient tools like flint and steel. Discover how to build and maintain a fire safely, even in damp conditions. It’s a skill as old as time, and still deeply satisfying.

Session 2: Tools & Whittling

Handle a bush-craft knife and other tools with confidence as you carve your own simple item to take home. You’ll learn safe techniques, how to coppice and harvest wood for green woodworking, and how to identify different trees — understanding which woods are best for carving, crafting, or fire. It’s a grounded, satisfying session that deepens your connection to the woodland.

Session 3: Foraging & the Wild Pantry

Take a walk on the wild side — and gather your lunch on the way. We’ll explore the seasonal wild foods growing around us and learn how to prepare something tasty together over the fire. Includes plant ID tips, safety guidance, and plenty of flavour.

Session 4: Wild Crafts

The final session brings together skills and creativity as you use natural materials from the woodland to create something useful and beautiful. From string made of nettles to healing balms, this is where it all comes together.

Book by 5th August 2025 to receive 10% off with our early bird offer.

My friend and I went into the beautiful woods in Stanmer Park, not really knowing what to expect. I went mainly because I'm making an effort to be outside more!
We were greeted, in a lovely friendly way and escorted to a gorgeous little clearing, where we spent a delightful time in nature.
After introductions, meditation and a fun game. We went for a walk across the fields to forage and cloud gaze.
Back to the clearing for snacks and learning how to build a camp fire.
The whole experience was like having a mini break and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Especially If you are feeling a bit stressed, or overloaded.
A little escape to the woods with some beautiful souls, is just what's needed.

We had a wonderful team afternoon out including chats round the fireplace, walks around the forest, whittling a knife and making bowls - it was super relaxing and much needed when we work in front of screens all day! The team all loved it. Kathleen and Victoria are the perfect hosts and made the whole experience very special, relaxing and looked after us so well. I highly recommend them for a memorable session reconnecting with nature.

This was the best social we've had. So lovely to leave our desks and do something different. There were games, meditation, time for wondering, and chatting around the fire with hot tea and snacks. We all left with our handmade wooden butter knives, clay bowls and a sense of calm. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and wholesome social for their team.

Wilderdays hosted a fantastic hen do for my friend, it was a beautiful day of laughter and touching moments. They had some lovely ideas for activities and adapted based on conversations to make the perfect day for us. We felt welcomed and looked after from the first moment, delicious home made snacks were provided and we were guided through a calm and relaxed afternoon of fun. Highly recommend!
